Tummy issues
My 4 month old has been having yellow mucus diarrhea for 7 days today. Her Dr says stomach bug but I told him I feel like it’s her milk like her body just changed and she doesn’t like it anymore but he disagrees. I decided to change her milk yesterday to a plant based one. When she was still less than 1 month old she tried similar soy but didn’t do well. Her stools finally went from about 8-10 a day to 3 today. My question is - how can I get WIC or Dr to approve her to be on an alternative soy formula since she didn’t do well on Similac ?

Tummy issues are tough, especially when they are so little. Keep a clear, detailed record of feedings, bowel movements, sleep, etc., on regular formula and the plant-based formula. Take that log to your doctor and request that your child be prescribed the alternative, plant-based formula. If the doctor says no, then ask them to write “symptoms discussed, suggested treatment refused by doctor”. That should push them to take action (they won’t want a record showing that they aren’t treating patients). Keep advocating for your little one. As for WIC, do the same. They should be supportive in providing you with alternative options.

I was told at this stage the extra saliva from teething can causes this. In my state we get loaded a card and we chose our own formula. But you can have your pedi write an RX and bring that to WIC. Our son is on AR and it’s been perfect. When he’s stocked up he gets Reguline.

Both my kids had CMPA cows milk protein allergy. I nursed both girls however I had to go on an elimination diet and it cleared up within days. They both had yellow mucus poops. Like stringy and sticky looking?! I worked with a company called Free to Feed. They are pediatricians nurses dietitians and scientists that’s study protein in breast milk and how it can cause babies to be “colicy” or mucous poops. I’m not a Dr by all means and I couldn’t tell you if what you have is this but reach out to them or do some research online. They also work with you on formula too. Hope your little one feels better soon. You’re doing an amazing job!
