Paying nanny over holiday week
Trying to settle a conversation between me and my husband :) This week our nanny worked a regular schedule, except for Tuesday (NYE) when we sent her home at 3pm, and Wednesday, which she had off for New Year’s Day. She normally works a 41.5 hour week. Do we pay her for 40 or 41.5 hours?

Because it's the holiday week I would just give her the normal pay.. hoping you had a good one!

In this situation, I’d pay her for the full day when you sent her home early since the expectation is that when she comes to work she works a full day. Sending her home early is therefore a nice thing: she gets to go home early and get her normal pay. For the New Years, since it’s a holiday, I’d treat it how you treat normal holidays. For us, we pay our nanny for holidays including New Year’s Day. However, on a typically day, she works 9-6 pm which makes her eligible for overtime. We treat holidays as a 9-5, not 9-6, so she would get 1 fewer hour of pay that day. The most important things are that: 1) you are in compliance with labor laws including overtime pay and 2) you have articulated upfront what the pay expectations are and you hold up your end of the bargain.

Meant to start a new thread, not comment on this one. Disregard!
