2nd birthday experiences
My husband and I opted out of throwing our son a second birthday party and want to take him somewhere instead for his birthday. It will be in October so keeping weather in mind, any recs on where could be really fun for him at this stage of life? Thinking for a weekend and not opposed to flying (but ideally would like something nothing more than a couple hours flight)

For a two year old, even the smallest things are special and unique so you definitely don’t need to put pressure on yourself to plan something big. When our son turned two in February we also didn’t have a party, but we took him to the Coney Island Aquarium, made him Cookie Monster cup cakes, and sang happy birthday. It was easy to do, required little planning, and was special for all of us.
In NYC in October there is doggy Halloween so if your kid is into dogs that could be fun!

When our daughter turned two we took her to Disney World because we had planned to see my parents in Florida around that time anyway. She enjoyed seeing the characters in costume (especially Minnie) and did a couple of rides but we didn't stay long because of the heat and lines. She actually ended up enjoying the splash pools and lazy river at our hotel more than anything but it was a fun weekend for us all.
When our son turned three we took him to the train museum. He really enjoyed that but he was really into trains at that age and old enough to enjoy it.
