How much to spend on birthday gifts?
my daughter is 18mo and has some friends from the building and music class whose 1 and 2 year old birthday parties we’ve been invited to — what’s a reasonable amount of money to spend on gifts for these situations? bonus points for actual gift suggestions too :)

I’m between like 20-25 for acquaintances. If they’re really good friends, slightly more. For one year olds, I love giving touch and feel books or really simple wooden puzzles. What I’ve been loving for two year olds are the Lego duplo sets. Keeps them occupied, and it doesn’t have too many Lego pieces or tiny ones. I think between $20-35 is the sweet spot for most. Slightly higher for good friends

I’m not the best gift giver, but I do love receiving a nice gift (and seeing my kids receive gifts) 😁The gifts that I always enjoy are things that are unique to where someone is from or related to something they just did like travel. So a friend of mine who is from Australia got my son a book called Koala Lou which is a classic Australian kids book. And I thought that was so sweet. And a friend who is Chinese American got one of my sons a tiger and the other a dragon because they were born in the years of the tiger and dragon respectively. So so cute! We were just in London and bought a black cab toy car as bday gift for our son's friend who was turning 3. The NYC transit museum has a shop which has cool NYC transit stuff.
