3rd Trimester - starting a new job
Hi! Wanting to get any advice about facing a big life shift while in the 3rd Trimester.
I am currently 31 weeks, and an opportunity came up at work for me to apply to another role. This role is within my company but a completely different department/workload. I interviewed and got it, which is exciting but with Maternity leave sneaking up very quickly I am a little stressed. Obviously, I feel supported in the timeline by my new leadership, but still has come with stress from me naturally.
I have to learn this new role while balancing all the fun that comes with the final couple months of pregnancy. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

Since they asked you to interview and then hired you, you’re coming in from a position of strength. I’m assuming they also knew you were pregnant, which only reinforces how much they wanted you. So always keep that in the back of your mind - you are far and away the best person to be doing this job even if it comes with a steep learning curve and the added stress of becoming a new parent. The other thing you’ll naturally learn and get much better at is prioritization. So much stuff at work doesn’t matter. So how can you get better at filtering out the nice to haves and only doing the important things. You’re going to drop balls, so just be really thoughtful about which ones you drop! Doing this can be painful, especially if you’re a perfectionist, but it’s the only way - and very liberating! GOOD LUCK!!

I was already 6 months pregnant with my first when I started a new job. I had gone into the interviews knowing I was but of course didn't say anything and then when everything landed, the time had past. I told them my 2nd day at work and shared that I was really excited and committed to the role, would be taking my parental leave, and would return motivated and just as excited. They were a really supportive employer and embraced this. My ramp up on the new team didn't differ for others and if anything I had a stronger sense of motivation to ramp up quickly since I would be going on leave in a short time. I also got organized fast and put together a transition plan for my team. It ended up all working out. I stayed at that company for over 5yrs, had another baby while there, and got promoted all the way up to VP! Best of luck ❤️!
