Lunch ideas for toddler
My toddler is starting play school next week and I have no idea what to pack for lunch. She eats everything and anything but I would love to send her to school with Pinterest ready lunches 😅 I know, so unnecessary but it would make me feel better about having to send her off.

Hahaha I take the complete opposite approach: set the bar super low so that when I surprise him with something special his expectations are wildly exceeded! Mostly I do stuff that can be put together quickly: cheese sandwich, SO many berries, dried fruit and nuts, stuff like that.

I’ve been on some really good threads where parents share what they packed for lunch. There are hundreds of photos of different lunches. Some are super elaborate Pinterest style lunches. Other are just simple - like a pouch 😂. But it’s cool to see what people are doing to get inspo because on day 782 the creative juices aren’t exactly flowing. We’d need to make it so you can share photos but that seems like something we could do. ,[object Object], ,[object Object],@Jake Boyles

Initially I tried to send her “clean” lunches thinking I wanted to spare the daycare teachers of her mess, but actually they told me just pack her favorite foods. For the first 6 weeks my child had a lot of separation anxiety so she would cry at drop off and not eat her lunch. But on the advice of her teachers, I started packing her favorites (Mac & Cheese) and she started to finish her lunch. Her teachers don’t mind she’s a mess after! (Daycare teachers are angels btw, I appreciate them so much) So I would advise rather than try to pack Pinterest boards, think about her slam dunk favorite comfort foods and pack those. And don’t worry about the separation anxiety in the beginning! It’s rough, but they adjust and school has been so great for my toddler!!!

Kind of embarrassing but we're using little spoon right now 🙈 we heat it up and package it in Tupperware so she can eat it easily but it's definitely not aesthetic (or cheap lol). One day I aspire to be the mom who can make Pinterest lunches in her bentgo box 🥲

Kelsey, I’m not doing Little Spoon yet but when I see those ads, I want to eat them. They look tasty! And btw, I don’t do Little Spoon but the Mac & Cheese I send my kid to school with is the Trader Joe’s frozen kind. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m a millennial mom who never learned to cook, what can you do?

I def don’t do this personally but I always thought the cookie cutter sandwich idea seemed more manageable than some things, and ditto on the favorite foods. My brother is one of those people who writes a short note (or draws a funny picture) in his son’s lunchbox, and I know he was/is sentimental about sending the kids off, so that could be another way to help yourself feel better even if the lunch itself is simple. Big transition for both of you! Wishing you the best!

Good luck Jessica! Sending you kids to day care/pre-school is such an amazing moment as they slowly build their own independent social lives.
