Help! My 3 year-old is ready to drop naps, but daycare makes her nap. What do I do?
Posting this after another brutal 2-hour bedtime battle with my completely wide-awake, overtired toddler who took a full 2-hour nap at daycare today. It’s just about 10pm and I’m just exhausted Every time I get that “nap started” notification from Brightwheel, I just abot lose my sh*t. And to make matters worse, she still wakes up at the same etime so no extra sleep, just a cranky, exhausted kid the next day. On weekends or days when she skips her nap, she goes down happily at 7:45pm and everything is smooth sailing. It’s like night and day. I’ve brought this up with the daycare, but they insist it’s a licensing requirement that all kids be placed in a dark room and “offered” a nap, which I find just insane. Has anyone dealt with this before? I’m completely at a loss. Any advice or creative workarounds would be appreciated.

My oldest happened the same. The daycare just had him in the book corner quietly reading while everyone was napping

  • Did you have to fight with them to do this or were they accommodating? I wonder if I'm just dealing with some petty bureaucrat. It seems like such a minor accomodation and it would be a meaningful improvement to my quality of life.

I was going to suggest seeing if she could do some quiet time instead of napping. At 3, your daughter should be able to spend an hour by herself looking at books and doing quiet play time.

Yeah I totally hear you on this! We're also dealing with a 3yr old transitioning between naps. I'm starting to reduce her naps now so that she isn't up so late. And by the time the summer starts I'm ready to get rid of it! 🙏🏽

I would say. Since you know your 3 year old doesn’t take naps. Be sure the daycare aren’t forcing by melatonin . (Happened to me)
