How did you find / choose your kid's preschool?
I'm helping my son's preschool rethink their approach to recruiting new families. I'm curious, how did you discover the preschools you considered for your kid, and what were deciding factors for choosing the one you did? Welcome feedback from anywhere but especially curious to hear from NYC parents!

We are currently in playschool and we went with word of mouth. We are part of a very active parent community within our neighborhood. We had heard wonderful things about the school and after visiting it ourselves realize dot was exactly what we wanted for our daughter. We are now in the process of looking for 3K programs for next year and that is super competitive from what we’ve heard. We are trying to keep her either close to home or close to one of our jobs, so that is factor 1. #2 is reviewing the school directory online for parent satisfaction and 3 asking our community for their experience, suggestions and regrets.

Our number one criteria was finding a Spanish language school. So when you add that filter, it just really narrows down options. It turns out that there’s one about ten mins away from our house. So we went to an open house, met the teachers and other parents. Talking with the other parents really gives you a good sense of what it’s like and everyone we spoke to had great things to say. So we actually only looked at one school. And our son has been there for two years and loves it. We’re going to send our other son there in a few months. Not sure if this was a great methodology, but it worked for us. Good luck Erik!

Definitely word of mouth but only from parents who have similar values to you. This might mean not taking the rec from one of your good friends who doesn’t prioritize something you might. Also ease of pick ups and drop offs if this is an option for you - reducing as much stress and travel in both your life and your child’s!

I discovered the preschool through friends who had sent their kids there and did a tour + the school has universal 3k and prek - very happy with the school now.
