Phasing out the dream feed
My son is 11 months, gets most of his calories from solid foods AND YET refuses to give up his dream feed. Like clock work, he’s up at midnight demanding his bottle. I’ve weened him down to 3 ounces of formula for the dream feed but I can’t get him to shake it. I’m desperate to get him off this so I can get to bed earlier. Want can I do?

I’d say making sure he’s had a really good meal / maybe even a snack closer to bedtime. Could you then just not give him the bottle if he wakes up ?I know that might sound harsh but maybe it’s just time to say no, give him some love, and then let him go back to sleep.

It was hard for us too, you’re not alone! We did similar to what Swati said too. A pretty full meal, a shortish transition to bedtime, and then when our daughter woke up we would hold her for a little while, but not give her the bottle. Soon enough she figured out how to just sleep through.

Ah it’s so difficult! It’s so much easier to go and soothe him with the bottle. It’s funny cuz it’s now a routine for me so it’s just as much about breaking my routine as it is breaking his routine.

Oh that’s so real, especially anything you’re doing on autopilot in the middle of the night 😵💫

Okay, tonight I’m going to give him two ounces in the bottle. I’ve gotten him down to 3. But he also has a cold and is fussy. Wish me luck!!!! Thanks for all the support 🙌
