Flying with infants ✈️
Any tips for taking a trip with a baby? She'll be about 6 months old, and it'd be a 2 hour flight. We'll need a rental car at our destination.
What are the best airlines for traveling with kids? Do we bring a car seat or have one waiting at the destination for us?
Should we bring a stroller? We have the Cruz V2, so it's not really airline friendly, but also don't want to spend a ton on a travel stroller.

It probably depends what you’re going to be doing at your destination and how long you’re going to be there. This might be a little crazy, but at 6 months, in certain settings (like grandparent house) you might be able to get away with just bringing a carrier. Alternatively, there are options for renting baby gear in lots of cities. When we went to London in the fall, we rented a crib from a company called Babonbo and it worked great. But they aren’t in every city. We also bought a great travel stroller for our toddler which was super light and cheap. Would highly recommend. But probably not great for a 6-month old.

@Ethan Arpithanks! A carrier would probably work if we don't get a stroller!

Doona! It’s both a car seat and stroller and will make the trip so easy. If you pay for a seat, the Doona also fits in the seat and then the baby has a perfect place to hang out on the plane. If you don’t, you can gate check it or fully check it both for free and just use a carrier through the airport. Can’t recommend it enough for travel with kids under 1!

Yes! If you’ve got both parents, send one ahead with all the stuff as soon as possible while the other stays back with the kid(s) until the very end of boarding. Then the kid can hop on and take off without waiting forever until an unmoving claustrophobic metal tube.
Also work with the staff. Let the boarding agents know your plan and introduce yourself to the staff on the plane. Ask for tips as you introduce yourself. They rarely give us tips beyond reassurance but it opens up the relationship and shows you are receptive to help, meaning they will be more proactive in assisting you.
We also go to the dollar store and get a bag full of toys, putting them into a slow rotation as to not overstimulate our kids.

Adding to this post, if I’m traveling and staying at a hotel, should we ask about bed accommodations for a 2 month old? Are parents usually bringing a travel bassinet or pack n play, or can the hotel we’re staying at accommodate if we ask?

@Kelsey BinkleyDefinitely reach out to the hotel and see what they have. It’s totally reasonable to ask for photos as well. Lots of hotels have pack n plays. The only hard recommendation I have is to bring your own sheets and mattress covers because sometimes the hotels can be super dingy. Even nice hotels!
