Is a changing table necessary?
We had a dresser with a changing table for my son, but replaced it with a chest of drawers/armoire because we need more storage. Is it worth getting a cheap-portable changing table from Amazon for our newborn? Or can we get by with using the couch, table, floor, etc?

Especially if you’re a second time parent with experience changing diapers, you probably don’t need one especially if you are space constrained. While a baby can fall off a bed as this article mentioned, they can also fall off a changing table. Especially in the early days, it’s important to have changing stations around your house or apartment so you can quickly and easily change a dirty diaper. But it definitely doesn’t have to be on a changing station.

Agree, not necessary! We ended up getting a pack n play that had a changing table and bassinet attachment - mostly for the bassinet - and used that as our living room station. In the nursery we got a Bumbo changing pad and secured it to our daughters dresser. This is the one we have - https://www.target.com/p/bumbo-changing-pad-hemlock/-/A-91104055
Also, we used one of those 3 level utility carts in the early days as a station for me & baby - meds, snacks, wipes, etc. Was nice to roll between rooms. Now it's set up next to the dresser as storage for all the "changing table" supplies. I like the setup!

A changing table was not necessary for us. We were gifted a changing pad that I absolutely love and would recommend. You can change them anywhere in the house, it doesn’t take up much room, and sometimes it even helped with naps! The pack and play changing station only worked for a few months before she outgrew it.

Totally agree with@Ana Fordthat the pack and play station has a short life span. We must have a used it a total of 5 times. We have a real changing table but it doubles as a dresser which is helpful for storing clothes.

We skipped the changing table and just have changing pads. The keekaroo peanut and Skip Hop has a cheaper one that’s just as good! I keep them tucked away and pull them out as needed. Such a space saver and personally just find the changing baby on a table thing terrifying when they start moving.
