Toy Rotation
My son got a lot of toys for his first birthday, and I am slowly organizing his room. I bought a toy shelf but saw some parents on social media doing intentionally toy rotations every few weeks to keep children engaged. Any tips on how to categorize toys and how to rotate them/store them. Thank you!

Sort joy makes these really nice felt containers for storage which look really nice. But they can be a bit pricey. https://www.sortjoy.com/products/sculpted-bin-with-lid?currency=USD&gad_campaignid=22586153702&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAphfZfcv158p75AHrZNy4gV6ux9ox&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=22579842888&tw_kwdid=&tw_source=google&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&variant=44233481650468 IKEA also makes some nice ones too and they are much cheaper. We try to organize things so that we know where stuff is so we have a box for cars, and trains, etc. However the reality of having two kids under four, 2 dogs and 2 working parents is that stuff doesn’t always get put back where it’s supposed to go or put back at all. TBH I’m not sure how much it really matters about rotating through stuff. My kids just gravitate to things and dictate what they want to play with independent of what I want or suggest. So I mostly just let them follow their interests vs try to rotate through things. But who knows, every kid seems to be different!

I have the ikea Kallax shelf. Some of the squares I put storage bins. Others, I leave open and put books and toys in them. Then I can switch out toys from the open boxes to the storage boxes as necessary. But tbh, I keep forgetting to do it. 😜

Hey Nestor! I try once in a while to categorize my kids toys but they all just end up mixed up in the same bucket in the end 😅 what I will do though (more of a low-effort approach than the social media thing, but same effect) is to put one container of toys in a closet. After a few months (honestly, more like twice a year) I’ll bring it out and the kids will be thrilled that we ‘found them.’ The trick is to not take anything away that they will notice or be upset about.. just the stuff they don’t play with. It doesn’t matter if they never played with it a few months prior, or if they’ve outgrown it - as long as it’s new in my kids eyes it is somehow BETTER, haha! Good luck :)
