I've heard the deterrent nail polishes work! Also doing a weekly routine of trimming nails and making it fun might also!

We are going through something similar. Our two and a half year old put his fingers in his mouth when he’s anxious. It started in early summer when he was “performing” in the school play and then he started doing it a ton when we traveled to London. We had broken his routine and he was super jet lag and sleep deprived. We kept telling him not to do it. But he wouldn’t listen at all. Since we’ve returned home and gotten him back on a routine I haven’t noticed it at all. But I like these tips!

Our son started doing this in 1st grade - the only way I’ve been able to deter it is to keep his nails short. Every time they’re long enough to chew on he does it subconsciously.
