Transitioning to breastfeeding
Hi!
My little one is 6 weeks old today. Due to some health complications breastfeeding was not possible in the first few weeks. I have been exclusively pumping since then and have established a good supply.
My son has a great latch (for the bottles), no ties, etc. he does have some reflux issues, that he is on medicine for and is doing a lot better.
Recently he has been having an increased hunger at night (cluster feeding etc) and so we have talked about the transition to direct breastfeeding, at least for the nights, hoping that would be able to feed him more on demand, and allow him to stop when he needs to (versus refilling more bottles, or worse, having to toss uneaten breast milk!)
Curious if anyone has tips or experiences transitioning later in the game and what that looked like for you.
Thanks!

I started nursing when my son was 6 weeks old as well because he had a tongue tie and wasnât able to latch earlier. Be gentle with yourselfâit might be slightly painful at first as you get into a rhythm, although nursing side lying at night is a great relaxed position for you both and should allow you to get more sleep too. Youâll want to pull back on pumping a bit so your supply can adjust to the change. I also remember wearing silverette nursing cups when not nursing (you can buy on Amazon) to help soothe the nipples.

I had a c section and milk came in late. The maternity nurses told me if I start her on formula, sheâll never latch. They were wrong!!!! My baby started breastfeeding at 6-8 weeks. During this period sheâd latch sometimes but other times did not. Just keep trying and continue with pumping and formula. By 8 weeks, she consistently. Itâs not impossible!!
