Toddler suddenly very picky
Everyone warned me this day would come but it hit fast. My baby was a great eater (veggies, fruits, meats) but after we hit 1yo suddenly it’s hard to get him to eat a well-rounded meal. For example dinner tonight I offered a typical meal that he used to love: broccoli, ground beef, sweet potatoes, a little cheese. He would only eat the cheese. So I tried strawberries, blueberries, avocado, pasta. All previously beloved foods. All ended up on the floor. He would only eat cheese and a fig newton 🤦‍♀️ How do I get him to eat good stuff again?

I wish I knew the answer. We’ve been navigating this now for a few years with our oldest who is now 3.5. And our youngest who is 1.5 is picking up a lot of the older ones bad behaviors. Our oldest ate absolutely everything. Spinach. brocolli. Red leaf lettuce. Now he basically just like grilled meats, pasta, pizza and anything with melted cheese and some type of carb. The things that have somewhat worked for us is making sure kids are really hungry before meals. This is hard because if they are too hungry all hell breaks loose. So it’s finding the sweet spot. Last night my wife was able to convince our oldest to east zucchini fritters by pairing them alongside catchup. So catchup is your friend. But it was a battle. I’ve also been making the longer term investment of getting my oldest son to cook with me. He helps break eggs, beat eggs, chop vegetables, measure ingredients. I then tell him that he made lunch and he feels super proud. But he still doesn’t always eat it 🫠 good luck. This will be a struggle for a few years so important to develop coping mechanisms. Because the absolute worst is going a wonderful meal to only have it thrown on the floor!
