Toddler with major separation anxiety
I just started a new job and lost my childcare at the same time, so we started our 21 month old in part time daycare and figuring it out as we go. He hates drop off still (it’s been 3 weeks) and it seems he’s a hard child for the daycare to deal with. Also I’ve been trying to wean and having zero success- nothing helps. Any advice is super appreciated!

Oh man, so much change all at once! That’s so hard. I have a three year old and I’ve gone through so many ups and downs at “school” drop off. In the beginning, he absolutely loved it and would run in without saying goodbye. But then we had a second kid and he stopped wanting to go. And it became super hard to get him to go inside without crying. I did all the wrong things for a few weeks which made drops offs progressively harder and longer. I spent more and more time trying to comfort him and responding to his ever growing lists of requests. At some point his teacher intervened and was like “you need to say goodbye give him and a hug and quickly leave.” I followed that advice and after about a week it made drop offs much much smoother. I also pack him a snack that I know he’ll like and remind him to eat right when I leave so he’s got something to look forward to. Good luck! It will definitely get better, it just might take some time.
