C Section Recovery Supplies
Hi! Headed home from hospital today, and my wife is recovering from an unplanned, but not-emergency C Section. We're taking the obvious stuff (pads, underwear, bottle, etc.) from hospital, but what else should we have? What else was useful? Ty!

flexible gel ice packs - lots of them. light weight, loose, high-waisted lounge pants (I got some at target i loved), if breastfeeding a nursing pillow that doesn’t rest on the incision.

+1000 to gel ice packs! I had them rotating in/out of the freezer in the early days. They also end up useful if not breastfeeding or if you need to stop quickly). A couple months postpartum I had really bad nerve pain that no one warned me was a thing and the ice packs came in handy again! Lots of high waisted pants/shorts/underwear. I didn't like things touching my scar for a long time. Any treats/entertainment/etc she needs to set up an area where she can park for a few days. I had a station that had granola bars, baby stuff, and I'd put my water & book (that I never read lol) on it. A surprise heavy hitter for me was a shower seat. I only needed it for a week or so, but to be able to shower on my own without risking falling / being in pain was a game changer. Lastly, LOTS of rest! I pushed myself too early and I'm pretty sure that ultimately prolonged my healing time. I never used the silicone scar sheets but was curious about them! Just didn't end up prioritizing that lol

Congratulations! And I also had an unplanned C-Section, so here in solidarity! The abdominal binder from the hospital was sufficient for me; I heard mixed things about abdominal binding vs core exercises, so I wore mine for comfort and support but also did some light core PT that the hospital suggested. Yes to high waisted everything. It’s a splurge, but I swore by Bodily’s All-In panty as the most comfortable, lux postpartum underwear and one of few that fit well over my scar.

Walk walk walk! It’s counterintuitive the more you walk the more you heal. Try to find her a lymphatic drainage massage therapist who will come to the house. They are super gentle but the massage helps get blood to the area and heal. I did 5x post c section and had a really successful recovery. Good luck!
